10 Great Albums By Artists People Hate

6. Parachutes - Coldplay

Most of the best rock bands out there today don't seem to bother themselves with the charts that much. Even though acts like Maroon 5 claim to be flying the flag for rock in the charts, their brand of pop rock has been centered more on the pop side for the better part of a decade at this point. While Coldplay is one of the other bands that have traded in their rock accolades at this point, their beginnings were a lot more atmospheric than even some fans probably remember.

When Parachutes was actually being worked on, this was in the waning days of the Britpop movement, with acts like Travis still finding air time on the charts. Whereas songs like Yellow may still be highlights of the band's career to this day, the rest of the album is a lot moodier than that, with some songs sounding like long lost Radiohead songs. Before Chris Martin adopted his eternal optimist persona, hearing songs like Trouble or Spies felt like the follow up to OK Computer that most Radiohead fans wanted but never actually got.

Granted, it's not like this is the biggest rock statement of the '00s or anything, with most bands like the Strokes and Radiohead themselves reinventing what the genre would become in the next few years. For Coldplay though, this was an impressive look at what the post Radiohead era of rock and roll could have sounded like.
