10 Great Bands With One Terrible Album
9. Be Here Now - Oasis
From day one, the Gallagher Brothers had always envisioned Oasis as being bigger than big in the music sphere, and by the late '90s they had pretty much pulled it off. After the smash success of their debut record Definitely Maybe, What's the Story Morning Glory became one of the biggest records of the decade and launched them into the conversation as one of the greatest rock bands working. Then again, why stop at the biggest in the world when you can reach for the biggest of all time?
As it turns out, when you try to outdo perfection, you end up with something like Be Here Now, which shows Noel really grasping at straws to find the best material that he could work with. Since these Mancunians had been working nonstop for years, you can just feel them getting exhausted on this album, which isn't helped by the fact that some of these tracks are phenomenally long by their usual standards.
Then again, this isn't the kind of trainwreck that you'd normally see from a band that's trying to sell out or anything. Oasis didn't really change much of their sound...they just tried to go for broke when they had already hit the ceiling of their career. With the rest of the Britpop movement falling down behind them, Be Here Now shows the moment where the Gallagher Brothers lost their momentum for a while.
