10 Great Bands With One Terrible Album

7. Music From the Elder - KISS

Out of all the massive rock bands to come out of the '70s, KISS was the one band that felt like fun to listen to. Considering every member of the band was clad in face paint and wore some of the most extravagant outfits in rock and roll, you knew you didn't really have to think too hard when deciphering some of their songs. When their sound started to get a little too cartoony though, they made the grave error of trying to get their fans to take them seriously.

While every member of the band can play their ass off, there's really no reason for an album like Music From the Elder to exist in their catalog. After years of writing about the life of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons decided to bring in producer Bob Ezrin (fresh off of making Pink Floyd's The Wall) for one of the most confusing concept albums of all time.

This kind of storyline may have made sense for a shock rock band at the time, but the actual dialogue just feels like something that you would hear from a random stoner's fan fiction of what KISS would do. Since Ace Frehley was known to have thrown this record against a wall when he first heard it, it seems like Music from the Elder isn't necessarily going to be the hard rock answer to Tommy or anything.
