10 Great Bands With One Terrible Album

6. Wild Life - Wings

It's hard to even imagine what was going through Paul McCartney's mind at the start of the '70s.

After dissolving the Beatles and feeling heartbroken over losing some of his best friends, the public was starting to turn on him as well, with his solo albums like RAM being dragged through the mud for no good reason. What he needed was a change of scenery, and Wings was the vehicle that was going to get him there.

Although if you're making another band from scratch, the fans don't really need to hear something like Wild Life, which feels like a collection of rehearsals and jams that the band were making as they were trying to figure out their sound. Though this does lead to some real heartfelt moments like Paul's peace offering to John Lennon on Dear Friend, the rest of the record feels like he's deliberately trying to stifle himself to get the rest of the band on his level.

Granted, it's nice to at least act like a fly on the wall listening to these songs, with tracks like Mumbo sounding like a Little Richard style song that Paul would have absolutely killed in his early Beatles days.

Then again, why is something like Bip Bop or Linda McCartney's first song I Am Your Singer sandwiched between these tracks? Despite standing alongside the rest of Wings' catalog, this feels more like a demo tape than anything else.
