10 Great Collaborations That Combined Different Genres
1. Old Town Road
When Lil Nas X released this track in 2019, it blew up everywhere with its catchy chorus, laid back vocals and undeniable flow. Climbing up the charts, it courted controversy when Billboard removed it from their "Country" section of the chart after protests that it wasn't a "true" country song.
Enter Billy Rae Cyrus - father of Miley, wearer of questionable denim and singer of 1992's "Achy Breaky Heart" who was the biggest name and most vocal objector to this decision. Throwing his full support behind artist, song and classification he went one step further and actually recorded a new version of the track with Lil Nas X and was featured in the music video for it.
The result? Whether it was Cyrus' undeniable "real" country credentials, the controversy pushing it further into the public eye or just the pure ear-worm qualities of the track, it went to even greater strengths. The new video exploded in popularity and the single sold more than a million copies in the US alone.
The video is great fun to watch, the song will stick in your head for days and if you've somehow managed to not hear it before now, check it out.
