10 Great Collaborations That Combined Different Genres
9. Staring At The Rude Boys
This one takes a little following, so please bear with us here. "Staring at the Rude Boys" was originally a song by British Reggae/Punk band The Ruts released in 1980 that didn't make too many waves. It was re-recorded by Dag Nasty towards the end of that decade and then not really thought about again for a long time.
A year after their formation in 2005, hardcore punk outfit The Gallows were an unlikely band to take the track up and when they did it, it was with an even more unlikely collaborator. Lethal Bizzle has been a cornerstone of the British Grime scene for nearly two decades with the track "Pow" getting some mainstream play.
With the title slightly altered to "Staring at the Rude Bois", there is a lot to enjoy here. Frank Carter, the heavily-inked lead singer of The Gallows, screams the verses with his usual energy and aggression against the expected musical backdrop of grungy, palm-muted power chords.
When Lethal Bizzle takes on a verse, it's shocking how well it fits. Both artists adapt the lyrics a little to fit their own styles and this track comes highly recommended for fans of either artist.
