10 Great Non-Rock Covers Of Rock Songs

6. Katherine Jenkins - Bring Me To Life (Originally By Evanescence)

The selling point of Evanescence has always been the stunning voice of lead singer Amy Lee.

Lee's childhood was filled with classical music; she learned the piano for nine years and cites Mozart and Beethoven as early inspirations. Then she went emo.

Despite dyeing her hair and refusing to tidy her room, Lee's roots carried over into her life as a rockstar. This is clear to see in many of her songs, but perhaps none more so than the banger that is Bring Me to Life.

Taken from the band's first album, Bring Me to Life is basically a portion of an opera disguised as a heavy rock track. That disguise completely fell away when Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins recorded the song in 2009.

A very popular classical singer in the UK, Jenkins brought the song to life (ha) in her own way. Whilst she didn't change much about the music, she definitely upped the ante with the singing, belting out some huge operatic notes to close her version out.

To be honest, this song is such a natural fit for Jenkins, we're surprised it took her seven years to get round to it.
