10 Great Rock Albums With Terrible Titles
1. Dookie - Green Day
It might be one of the most revered and seminal albums of the 1990s, but come on, it's named after poo.
Green Day's major label debut helped shift the focus away from the grunge of the early 90s and onto a more melodic, less serious form of rock that would help usher in the pop punk boom discussed earlier. Through tracks like Welcome to Paradise, When I Come Around, and Basket Case, this underground trio became national sensations and have enjoyed an incredible level of success in the mainstream ever since.
All this, off the back of an album that, in the band's own words, was named after diarrhoea.
In fact, the original name of this record was going to be Liquid Dookie, but that was deemed "too gross". Oh yeah, that's gross, but just regular old Dookie? No problems there!
The word is so tightly associated with Green Day now that most people probably don't even realise its scatological routes. If you are a fan of this album, then do yourself a favour; stay away from Urban Dictionary.
You won't like what you find there.
