10 Great Rock & Metal Albums From 2018 You May Have Missed
8. Thrawsunblat - Great Brunswick Forest
>The mispronounced "Thrash and Blast" are back with the least metal offering on this list. Folk and Black Metal get along greatly, but what happens when you strip away the Black Metal and add in Maritime themes? The Great Brunswick Forest is what you get.
2018 saw its fair share of Black Metal bands take their turn producing pure Folk albums, with Panopticon being the most notable. Thrawsunblat don't shy away from keeping true to the Black Metal moniker of raw production values. The second song of the album, Here I Am a Fortress, displays this right up front with Joel Violette hitting some high notes that definitely feel just out of his range. Later on in the song you can even hear the acoustic guitar mess-up on a riff or two.
Things like that would turn many people off to the album, as it would feel either rushed, cheap, or lacking in an effort to make something worthwhile. But within this lower production value is where the true atmosphere of the album comes in. It really sounds like two guys busking at a dock on the shores, singing about their time at sea.
