10 Great Singles That Weren't Originally Released On A Studio Album

8. I Need A Doctor - Dr. Dre featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey

Finding the ears of audiences during the 2011 Grammys I Need A Doctor, yet another collaboration between Eminem and Dr Dre, found commercial success despite not featuring on any full length project.

Riding the wave of 2010’s Recovery, I Need A Doctor saw Eminem at his most thankful, acknowledging Dre’s influence as a significant factor in his success and bringing with it an immensely powerful song that only elevates its emotional depth.

Skylar Grey's soothing voice wonderfully balances Eminem's intensity during the opening verses, almost as though her presence is serving as the healing touch that the song is so blatantly asking for. The percussion is heavy, though it’s layered with a simple piano tune that makes every beat infinitely more complex, and as a result the tune maintains a sense of innocence throughout.

The Detroit-born rapper would start the decade in fine form, finding sobriety and releasing a duo of solid albums in 2010 and 2013 respectively. However, time would pass, and with it some thoroughly underwhelming projects released, and while Eminem isn't in need of music advice, each one surely would have benefitted greatly from I Need A Doctor’s inclusion.

A pity.
