10 Greatest Anti-Love Songs In Rock Music History
7. The Angel and the One - Weezer
From day one, Weezer was never supposed to be the most lyrical group of all time. I mean, you're not necessarily going to rely on the guys who wrote lines like "I don't want to destroy your tank top" to become the next Bob Dylan on you or anything. When Rivers Cuomo does commit to the idea though, it pays off in dividends on tracks like The Angel and the One.
Even though the rest of the Red Album does fall victim to some dad rock every now and again, this is the kind of operatic song that could give a track like Only in Dreams a run for its money. Just like that track off the Blue Album sounded like the world was shifting by talking to a girl, this is what happens when you find out that the future with her doesn't seem possible anymore.
Looking at the lyrics though, it doesn't seem like anyone is necessarily in the wrong here. It's nobody's fault that things started to go sour...it's just life pushing you in two separate directions and leaving you to move on to better things. As much as the pain might sting in your chest right now, that last lyric of "peace shalom" is just the right touch to leave everything off with. You're not happy right now...but you'll be okay.
