The Australian music industry has produced a seemingly unlimited number of top line musical acts, with smash hits following in their wake. While good ol' rock 'n' roll is the general template from which Australian acts have subscribed, this is not to say it is the only musical style the Antipodeans have excelled at.

In the 21st century in particular there has been an infusion of grunge, dance and pop music that have all proved extremely successful and pleasing to the ear. Producing smash hits throughout the world is something synonymous with bands and solo artists originating in Oz, while international artists have benefitted from expanded musical creativity from their trips down under. (And no, I'm not talking about Redfoo's Let's Get Ridiculous!)

Our list makes its way through the 60's and right up to the present day, with grammy winners and world number one's littering the list. Incredibly bands like the Little River Band, Crowded House, The Vines and Jason Donovan don't figure on this list, although Too Many Broken Hearts came mighty close!

So put on your akubra, slip into some moccasins and prepare to chill out to the best Australian songs ever produced.

10. Dance Monkey - Tones And I

The rise of the Female artist with the peculiar voice is one of the more remarkable stories in Australian music history. Toni Watson, known professionally as Tones and I, was busking on the streets of Melbourne just a year before her big breakthrough. Her distinctive voice gathered the attention of Sony records and the rest is history.

The loops and beats of this track do create an interesting and engaginsound, but it is Watson's distinctive lyrics that elevates the song to a whole new level. The success of the song was remarkable, hitting number 1 in over 30 countries including the UK, while also reaching number 4 in the US.

The song even broke the record for the most consecutive weeks at the top of the Australian charts. Now that is something to dance to.

With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
