10 Greatest Classic Rock Albums Of The 1970s
7. Rush - 2112
Considering the amount of huge bands that have come out of Canada over the years, it’s surprising that we’ve managed to get this far into the list before encountering one. As our second consecutive album from 1976, ‘2112’ was Rush’s fourth studio album and followed on from the (almost) equally iconic ‘Caress of Steel’.
Released on Anthem Records, ‘2112’ has earned a reputation as an essential classic rock record over the decades thanks to its distinct style and progressive intricacy.
‘The Twilight Zone’ was the only single released before the full album came out but it performed well, received a fair amount of airplay and paved the way for an incredibly successful album campaign. Another key yet underrated song from this album is ‘A Passage to Bangkok’ as it fully embodied the classic rock confidence possessed by Rush.
Fun fact: This album was named ‘2112’ because that was the supposed length of the opening track, but it actually runs for about 20:43.
