10 Greatest Classic Rock Albums You Need To Hear Before You Die
9. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
As Fleetwood Mac reached the 70's, the band had been shuffled around more than a few times. Starting off as a traditional blues rock outfit, the band's sound turned a corner once the duo of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks entered the fold.
While the first outing with this lineup produced some amazing songs like "Landslide," the band were not on good terms by the time the follow-up rolled around. Buckingham and Nicks' relationship was falling apart on one side, while the band's married couple Christine and John McVie were in a similar nasty split on the other side.
Rather than taking time off to cool out, the band poured all of their pent-up feelings into their song lyrics, which turned into brilliant pop masterpieces. From Buckingham's snide "Go Your Own Way" to Nicks' "Dreams," every track on this record seems to have a tale of love gone sour laced throughout its lyrics. Though the album works best as a whole, "The Chain" is the definitive mission statement, with the music being the key factor that brings each member crawling back to each other. The relationships may not have lasted much longer, but the songs that were brought out of this dark period became immortal.
