6. The Doors

The psychedlic rock band led by the charismatic heart throb Jim Morrison will live on as one of the great classic rock bands, in spite of the tragic demise of their dynamic lead. Morrison's incredible vocal range was the key to the bands success, his ability to reach the deepest chords in songs like Riders on the Storm, while still reaching epic heights in songs like Touch Me and Love Me Two Times giving the band so much range.

Their first and last albums with Morrison split the honours for the band's best work, the self titled debut album containing such classics as Break on Through, Light My Fire and the breathtaking The End. LA Woman proved a fitting finale for Morrison, the more simplified style of the tracks producing classics such as Love Her Madly and the ultimate song for a dark, stormy night and perhaps the band's best song, Riders on the Storm.

The band never recovered from the tragic death of their lead man, producing two lacklustre albums in Morrison's absence. The Doors were the first great rock band to find out what the likes of Queen and INXS were also to find, that while the lead singer isn't the whole band, the band just couldn't exist without them.
