10 Greatest Classic Rock Bands Of All Time

5. AC/DC

There have been many wonderful things to come out of Australia, including Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, the Hemsworth Brothers and Shane Warne. But by far and away Australia's greatest export has been Acca Dacca, the group founded by a couple of brothers from Fremantle who hired a bagpipe playing Scotsman to lead their band.

While AC/DC became a worldwide phenomenon from their iconic 1980 album Back in Black onwards, it was the late 1970's were the band was at its creative peak. Bon Scott was the ultimate frontman, a boozing partyman whose cavalier attitude came through in his vocal delivery. Be it offering to take down victims in Dirty Deeds, planning out the ultimate Jailbreak or outlining the brutal nature of making it to the top in the world of Rock, Scott always made the lyrics seem authentic and heartfelt.

In spite of Scott's death, the band became a global success when Johnston took over the lead vocals, but it was the school uniform wearing guitarist Angus Young who effectively becoming the band's leader. From the explosive riff of Let There Be Rock to the epic opening chords of Thunderstruck, Young knew how to lift an audience to rock hysteria. The only thing better than listening to an AC/DC track was seeing them play live, Young's boundless energy sending the audience into a spin.

There was no need to continue on with Axl Rose, but it's hard to have gripes with a band that has brought so much joy for so long.
