10 Greatest Comeback Albums In Rock Music History
4. Don't Believe the Truth - Oasis
Throughout the '00s, most of Oasis' career was about trying to recapture the magic that they got with their first two records. Ever since Be Here Now sent them down the tubes for the rest of their career, you'd always see the Gallaghers hyping up their records like they'd somehow be able to write another Don't Look Back In Anger. While it's stretching to say that anything could equal that, Don't Believe the Truth is their closest attempt at Britpop perfection again.
Before you get all up in arms though, this is still not on the level of something like Definitely Maybe. Then again, it's not trying to be. After being the kings of rock and roll through the back half of the '90s, this is where we started to see a bit more flair in the Gallaghers' voices, with Lyla being one of the greatest late period singles of their career.
It also benefits from having Noel let go of the reins and having some other people write songs, like Liam's turn on Meaning of Soul or the amazing opener Turn Up the Sun being penned by Andy Bell. That way it's more refreshing when we hear something like The Importance of Being Idle, which could have fit on the compilation album the Masterplan. Ending with the lighters-up ballad Let There Be Love, and you've got a reminder of just why the Gallaghers lived up to their claim as the greatest rock stars on Earth.
