10 Greatest Corey Taylor Vocal Performances

8. Birth of the Cruel - We Are Not Your Kind

Up until recently, Slipknot seemed to be in a state of limbo. While the band was able to rise from the ashes of Paul Gray's death with .5 the Gray Chapter, things looked pretty bleak once Chris Fehn left, bringing the original 9 down to 6. It was anyone's guess whether the band would even continue when faced with these setbacks, but We Are Not Your Kind concentrated all their anger into a single stream.

Even though songs like "Solway Firth" and "Unsainted" set the record up nicely, it was the emergence of "Birth of the Cruel" that really showed us that our favorite maniacs were back in full force. The riffs may be classic Slipknot, but Corey's performance is the perfect blend of both his modern and classic styles. There's definitely some fresh ideas that come with time, but the raw anger on display here is something that hadn't been seen since the Iowa days.

Given that the nu meta scene died a pretty ugly death in the early '00s, many would assume that all the classic bands of the era would fall by the wayside. Then again, Slipknot proved that some of the heavy hitters of the scene can whether any change in style. Throw this on and throw yourself right back into the pit again.
