10 Greatest Corey Taylor Vocal Performances

7. Duality - Vol. 3

Vol. III: The Subliminal Verses is a bit of a contentious listen for typical Slipknot fans. Though the album was able to give the 9 their first Grammy nomination, the more refined sound and softer elements on songs like "Circle" were a bit jarring coming from a record as savage as Iowa. While the band may have been going mainstream in some ways, "Duality" showed that the core anger was still accounted for.

From start to finish, this one track has some of the greatest transitions of any Slipknot song, which is led by Corey's insatiable growl. While we start off with just a slight whisper and slow singing, the song quickly erupts into one of the catchiest choruses that the band has ever laid down, all building to Taylor's "I"M NOT GONNA MAKE IT" refrain. Even though the hip hop flows of the verses may seem a bit jarring, the kind of demented attitude Taylor brings across sounds like the same flow from "Spit It Out" but more refined.

There may be a lot of poppy elements to this Slipknot track, but I defy anyone to not get hyped when every instrument drops out except Corey's scream before going into the final chorus. Slipknot may have been toning down their sound, but it's forgivable if it means we get more songs like these.
