10 Greatest Corey Taylor Vocal Performances

4. Snuff - All Hope is Gone

For a Slipknot release, people have often had some cruel things to say about All Hope is Gone. After years of being called too horrid and offensive for mainstream listeners, some Maggots felt betrayed that this album scaled things down a touch, with too many ballads to go around. The band members even complained about the jagged final product, but it did give us one of the most vulnerable cuts Corey would ever put to tape.

With nothing more than just a simple acoustic guitar, the song is led by Corey's broken vocal, which is absolutely gut-wrenching compared to the previous ballads on the record. Written about a troubled relationship Corey had been through, the song shows incredible restraint, almost as if he needs to explode with anger but wants to keep his level head to make sure he says the right thing.

Even though the song seems to be pointing towards a hopeful conclusion, the end finds Taylor alone and yearning for the past intimacy he once had with his lover. The song may have been written about a girlfriend, but ever since his death, this song has been a tribute to Paul Gray whenever the band perform it live. Slipknot may have been known as an in-your-face band, but when you strip away all the screaming and distortion, Corey Taylor still is a powerhouse musician across the board.
