10 Greatest Corey Taylor Vocal Performances
3. Do Me a Favor - The House of Gold and Bones
For as much great music as Stone Sour has put out, most of the people jumping on the hype train did so because of the pedigree. Though the band had some legitimately excellent chops to go around, it always seemed like they would forever be in the shadow of Slipknot. But then a funny thing happened when releasing the double album the House of Gold and Bones.
Appearing as a concept record, this one album ended up giving the band a firmer creative center that completely distanced them from the band of 9 Iowans who played fast and loud. Though the entire record can be a mixed bag in some places, "Do Me A Favor" is one of the greatest tour-de-forces that Taylor has ever been a part of. For the most part, the song is a typical hard rock stomper track, but the real power comes from what Taylor does with it.
As opposed to the more subdued Corey or the shrieking force behind Slipknot, this song feels like the purest blend of both of those styles, with the whole song taking on a more theatrical feel by the end of the track. The House of Gold and Bones is a pretty solid concept record, but this one song is enough to put Corey Taylor up there with some of the greatest theatrical rock singers in history.
