10 Greatest Debut Albums Of The 1970s
1. Ramones - Ramones
Though the 70's may have started off strong for rock music, it started to seem pretty stagnant by the middle of the decade. All of the hard rock bands of old had gotten successful, which led to extravagant productions that seemed more and more lethargic compared to rock's early days. Rock needed a kick in the ass, and a group of punks from New York were happy to deliver the blow.
Hitting the rock scene like an atom bomb, the Ramones' debut release was the first rallying cry for punk rock, with songs that were fast, simple, and to-the-point. Sure, there may not have been guitar solos on the record, but that wasn't the point. The unfiltered aggression and speed behind these tunes made rock and roll much more exciting, as the band penned lyrics about everything from sniffing glue to ripping off prostitutes.
At a time when the genre was on life support, this musical shot of adrenaline reignited the heart of rock and roll and made a thousand fans want to form bands of their own. This may not have been the most complex release to come out of the 70's, but without this 29 minute masterpiece, rock and roll as we know it today could not have existed.
