10 Greatest Diss Tracks In Rock History

8. Glorified G - Pearl Jam

In the early days of Pearl Jam, the drummer's stool was always a bit of a revolving door. From only having drummer Dave Krusen for the recording of Ten to using Matt Chamberlain for just a handful of shows, these grunge icons could practically rival Spinal Tap with the amount of drummer changes they had. Even though they seemed to be on level ground for a while with Dave Abbruzzese, there was a slight problem: Eddie Vedder HATED him.

While they played well onstage, the relationship clash between these two ultimately came to just being different people. One of the few notable instances of mismatched personalities is when Abbruzzese talked about buying a gun while out on the road. Being the more pacifistic of the two, Eddie didn't take kindly to the drummer's macho outlook on firearms, prompting him to write Glorified G in response.

Though the chorus of "glorified version of a pellet gun" is lifted verbatim from that conversation, the satirical lyric of "feel so manly when armed" did let that internal tension out into the open. It didn't take long for Abbrezzese to want out, with him not even contributing to all the songs on the next album Vitalogy. While it might be water under the bridge nowadays, this is one of the most passive aggressive slams ever put into a hard rock tune.
