10 Greatest Ever Fleetwood Mac Songs

1. The Chain

Another song that perfectly encapsulates the chaos and personal battles that help make Rumours the legendary release it is, "The Chain" is an absolute masterpiece.

One of the few Mac songs to have writing credits attributed to all five members of the band, The Chain is actually a chopped assortment of various jams, practice pieces and solo works each member of the group had been working on at the time. John McVie and Mick Fleetwood worked on the iconic bass progression at the end, Lindsay Buckingham recycled the first part of Lola (My Love) from his and Stevie Nicks' debut album, and both she and Christine McVie reworked the chord progression of the latter's song "Keep Me There".

One of the most played songs the band pull out when on-stage, The Chain has gone platinum twice in the UK where it has become one of the most recognisable tunes on the back of being the opening music to the national coverage of the Formula One, as well as featuring in Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2.

With both Nicks and Buckingham on lead vocals, The Chain is the most powerful expression of the internal strife the band were going through at the time, though that is all the more reason why it deserves to be treasured as Fleetwood Mac at their sparkling best.
