10 Greatest Ever Fleetwood Mac Songs
2. Dreams
What makes a song like "Dreams" so iconic is the background involved in the making of it.
The third single to be released for the Rumours album in June 1977, Dreams came about when the personal lives of each of the band members was at its peak point. Fleetwood Mac have become known for producing their best works from the inner chaos in their group, and Dreams began life as a simple melody written by Stevie Nicks during her break-up with Lindsay Buckingham.
The song deals with the contrast between the on-stage chemistry Nicks and Buckingham had, and the personal issues the pair were going through at the time. And that chemistry is fundamental to how the iconic tune came about, with Nicks supplying a rough outline of the song (which she has said only took ten minutes to write), and Buckingham helping to add to the magic of Dreams with his unique layered chords.
The best performing song the band ever produced, reaching number one in Canada and the US Billboard Hot 100, Dreams came back into the public eye after Tik Tok star Nathan Apodaca used the hit in a clip that went viral in 2020.
