10 Greatest Final Rock Albums Of The 2010s
8. Repentless - Slayer
Of the established "Big Four" thrash metal bands, only one has officially hung up their devil horns.
Whilst Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax are still going strong, Slayer drew a line in the brimstone with 2015's Repentless, their only studio album not to feature original guitarist Jeff Hanneman.
Hanneman, who had been a key writer and lyricist for the band, passed away in 2013 aged only 49, a devastating blow that united the metal community in grief. Two years on, with Exodus guitarist Gary Holt filling Hanneman's role, Slayer put out one last record before calling it a day.
The outcome was a record that embodied so many of Slayer's classic traits, whilst also seeing them tackle the issues of the day. Repentless reminded everyone why they fell in love with thrash in the first place and why Slater were such a big part in the genre's success.
There was even one last appearance from Hanneman, who wrote the song Piano Wire prior to his passing.
Far from perfect, Repentless still had a lot to offer for fans of heavy metal in its purest form and gave them a chance to bid farewell to an icon.
