10 Greatest Fleetwood Mac Albums
4. (Peter Green's) Fleetwood Mac (1968)
The album that kickstarted one of the longest running and most successful groups in all of music history, Fleetwood Mac marked the arrival of the group when it was released in February 1968. And whilst he might be remembered now as something of a tragic hero, this album really is the best celebration of Peter Green and his tireless efforts to bring together perhaps the best Blues Rock group the UK had ever seen.
Potentially the definitive album of the 'British Blues Boom' scene, Green has writing credits in five of the twelve songs listed, and his particular style stands out especially well in the likes of 'Merry Go Round', 'Long Grey Mare' and 'The World Keep Turning'.
Green's insistence on adding a second guitar to the band also proved to be an inspired decision, with Jeremy Spencer debuting with his unique take on slide guitars on the likes of 'My Heart Beat Like a Hammer' and 'Cold Black Night'.
A collection of takes and interpretations of classic Blues tunes as well as original pieces, the album soared to number six in the UK charts, firmly putting the band on the map, and has enjoyed fairly universal praise ever since its release.
For what this album meant alone, it deserves a spot amongst the greats.
