10 Greatest Garage Rock Music Albums Of The 2010s

7. Wide Awake! - Parquet Courts

By the time 2018 rolled around, American band Parquet Courts were five albums deep and had established quite a name for themselves on the US indie scene.

In an effort to take their music to the next level, they decided that the producer of their next album should be a cartoon rodent!

Sadly, the real Danger Mouse was busy, so they had to get in the guy from Gnarls Barkley.

The end result was the extremely enjoyable Wide Awake!, which hit shelves in May that year.

Armed with a desire to comment on the pressing social issues of the day, Parquet Court challenged some of the biggest monoliths in culture across this sub-40 minute instant classic.

The group's punky roots are on full display, with singers Austin Brown and Andrew Savage delivering several masterclasses on how to shout your point across in a tuneful way.

The production is also stellar, so good job on that one, Mr. Mouse.

All of this good stuff meant that Wide Awake! was one of the best reviewed rock albums of 2018. Australian radio station Double J even named it their album of the year, which is a huge accolade for anyone in the know.
