10 Greatest Hair Metal Songs
9. Round And Round - Ratt
There's something to be said about the workhorse bands of the hair metal genre. Compared to the titans of glam metal like Motley Crue or Poison, there's nothing wrong with knowing what you're good at and delivering it to your fans night after night. Though Ratt never really saw as much crazy success as their counterparts, you couldn't say they weren't competent in what they did.
For starters, these guys actually sounded like they could really play their instruments. It doesn't take a guitar wizard to know that Warren DeMartini is an absolute menace behind the fretboard on Round and Round, sprinkling in different lead licks that could put people like George Lynch to shame. The meat of the song comes down to that riff though, which always makes you feel like you're on a loop. Seems fitting for a song named this.
Where most hair metal bands had the looks and hooks but no real substance, there's an underlying sense of menace to this song, as if you're crawling out of the gutter and onto the streets right off of Sunset. Ratt might not have stuck around long, but when they managed to get the right idea, there was no one else who came close to them.
