10 Greatest Hair Metal Songs

5. 18 And Life - Skid Row

No hair metal act really had any business being in the spotlight after the late '80s. With only acts like Warrant and Winger garnering major attention, the sounds of alternative were on the horizon and were about to make every single band from the Strip obsolete. So why not just look to the East Coast to get your fix of decent hair rock?

Whereas most people look at acts like Winger as the remnants of a dying genre, Skid Row actually had more than enough gas in their tank to make a few hits, with 18 and Life being one of the most heartwrenching. Though something like I Remember You is considered a little more respectable these days, this is the hair metal version of a storyteller song, telling the story of Ricky and all the mistakes that got him into the hellscape he lives in every day.

Yeah, there's no way you're going to see someone like Warrant pull a song like that out of the air. Although Skid Row ended up catching the tail end of a dying genre with their first few hits, they made for a decent sendoff for the entire metal scene. Because once you've written a song with lyrics that sound like they could have been on a Johnny Cash B-side, you're in it for the long haul.
