10 Greatest Hair Metal Songs
4. Here I Go Again - Whitesnake
After the hair metal scene started to kick into high gear, every single 70s band wanted a piece of the action. You always have to change with the times, but not every band is going to make that leap to being a video starlet (just ask Ted Nugent). Of all of the old school rockers though, no band profited more from the MTV era of metal than Whitesnake.
Which makes sense because of just how forceful David Coverdale's outfit was to begin with. While the entirety of Whitesnake's career had always been rooted in the blues, it wasn't that hard to convert things into a heavier groove when the time called for it, which led to them striking gold on Here I Go Again. Revamping the song for an entirely new generation, this song practically is the '80s, complete with the glistening synthesizer before building up to a gigantic guitar breakdown in the chorus.
It also doesn't sacrifice any of the bluesy cred either. Along with nailing the hair metal genre, Coverdale still has time to flex his vocal chops, especially when going for the high note at the very end of the bridge. Although 90% of the audience was probably more interested in Tawny Kitean in the video, they at least had a kickass song to soundtrack the whole thing.
