10 Greatest Hard Rock Anthems Ever

9. Reptilia - The Strokes

Even when the first wave of punk came rolling in, it seemed that the rock world had forgotten everything they learned when the '00s rolled around. After grunge brought everything back down to Earth, the sudden death of Kurt Cobain led to everything become way too serious for any fun to be had. Though bands like the White Stripes are responsible for bringing rock back out of its shell, The Strokes were where rock found its swagger again.

Complete with a guitar tone as comfortable as your favorite pair of jeans, Reptilia is one of the most infectious rock tunes ever to come out of the '00s, as Julian Casablancas goes from a smooth serenading tone of voice to being on the verge of a mental breakdown with every word. As the track plods along, you'll find yourself humming the licks from Albert Hammond Jr. just as much as you are the vocal melody.

Not one to overstay its welcome, this song is one of the punchiest songs the band ever recorded, with one section leaving you aching to hear more by the time its over. The rock world seemed like a dismal place at the turn of the century, but this little slice of life is what helped make the genre sound new and exciting again.
