10 Greatest Hard Rock Anthems Ever
7. From Yesterday - 30 Seconds to Mars
It's a shame to see Jared Leto take his career down a questionable path as of late. From the too-pretentious-for-his-own-good performance that he brought across as the Joker in Suicide Squad to the horrible electronic direction he made with 30 Seconds to Mars' America, Leto doesn't really seemed to be concerned with making quality material as much as he used to. Then again, it's not like the quality stuff is exactly going away.
Long before he hid behind a million different keyboard presets, 30 Seconds to Mars were the kings of space rock, with "From Yesterday" being their crowning achievement. There was always a larger than life element to their sound, but the sonic landscape painted in this song almost feels like it belongs in another galaxy entirely. Though it seems ludicrous to think of it now, what really makes the track go is the vocals, with Leto laying into that hook line like it's a matter of life or death.
It also doesn't hurt that the music behind him is stellar, with a guitar track so epic that it could be one of the leftovers from U2 during their Joshua Tree era. For a band that was shooting for the stars, "From Yesterday" showed 30 Seconds to Mars setting their sights high and winning.
