10 Greatest Hard Rock Anthems Ever

6. Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots

When it comes to rock dynamics, grunge wasn't really about being larger than life. More often than not, the songs from Seattle were less concerned about singing of sex and drugs and took an inward approach, talking about everything from real life to emotional despair. Sex and drugs may have been a thing of the past, but the open road always remained a mainstay.

Though Stone Temple Pilots may have originally been ostracized from the grunge community, "Interstate Love Song" is where they won over a lot of believers. As the opening strains of guitar pour in, it almost feels like you're being put in a time machine back to the early days of rock and roll. Once the opening riff hits though, it's the closest sonic representation of riding down the highway with the windows down.

What really brings it home is Scott Weiland's delivery, as he pours every other word out of his mouth with the perfect gravelly drawl to keep you engaged. Even though many other rockers had this same vocal style at the time, Weiland was the one guy who actually had some charisma to back him up. There might not be anything too mind-blowing about this song, but sometimes it works better when everything is just right where it's supposed to be.
