10 Greatest Hard Rock Frontmen Of All Time
3. Ozzy Osbourne
For most of the early '70s, rock fans were still knee deep in the Summer of Love. Whereas most people were starting to realize that the era of flower power had a limited shelf life, there were a lot of hangers-on who were determined to carve out a utopia with acid, sex, and a whole lot of mediocre music. Just when you thought that the rock revolution was on its knees, rockers were hit with a sonic sledgehammer from Black Sabbath.
Despite guitar god Tony Iommi being the king of the guitar riffs and the beating heart of Sabbath, these guys wouldn't be where they are today if Ozzy Osbourne hadn't stepped in front of the mic in the first place. It's almost strange putting Ozzy on a list like this, considering most of his wild antics took place off the stage. From Sabbath's glory days to his solo career, Ozzy's headlines were mostly for his outlandish partying and questionable behavior, which came out in spades when he was onstage.
While in Sabbath, Ozzy struck you as a guy who has been held up in an insane asylum for years and is being brought out to wreak havoc on the stage. Going into his solo career, he seemed to get even crazier, going so far as to infamously bite the head off a bat in a drunken stupor. Regardless of the more dopey moves he makes nowadays, the amount of devilish glee Ozzy brought to the stage made him earn the name the Prince of Darkness.
