10 Greatest Hard Rock Frontmen Of The '70s
4. Bon Scott - AC/DC
There's no genre of rock and roll that doesn't in some way go back to the blues. From the sounds of punk rock to the slow plodding material you'll find in metal, no other band didn't have that same blues starting point to kick things in motion. When it comes to AC/DC though, Bon Scott turned in the down and out bluesman schtick for the rock and roll persona we know and love today.
While there were certainly other hard rock singers mining a similar style as Bon in the early days, Scott was the first of his kind where you believed every word coming out of his mouth. Whether it was talking about contract killings on Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap or the fireball ending of Highway to Hell, you could tell that this was a guy who lived and breathed that lifestyle every single day.
Even when taking to the road, Scott was known to be every bit the rock and roll pirate that he sounded like on record, looking for nothing more than swigging his bourbon and snarling at the mic whenever he got the chance. Then again, Bon ended up dancing a bit too close to the fire, eventually dying of alcohol poisoning just before the sessions that would become Back in Black. As the legacy continues on without him, the spirit of Bon is still present whenever you fire up something like Walk All Over You.
