10 Greatest Hard Rock Frontmen Of The '70s

5. Alice Cooper

The '60s were the time for rock and rollers to be on the level of superheroes. No matter how much you may have wanted to be like them, the power behind acts like the Beatles and the Animals felt almost superhuman in their construction, bringing with them a new form of rock and roll no one had heard before. A lot of rock heroes....but no real villains. That is, until we met a man named Alice.

Born Vincent Furnier, the emergence of Alice Cooper on the hard rock was a game changer once they hit it big with I'm Eighteen. Instead of the usual rock and roll wild men, Cooper was something much more evil than parents were ready for. Taking the macabre nature of horror movies and marrying it to hard rock, Cooper hit upon a formula that was the perfect antithesis to what parents wanted, making him Public Enemy #1 for censors around the world.

While the suits may have been offended, the kids were absolutely rapturous, as they would see Alice be put through hell every night, culminating in his death onstage by way of hanging, beheading, or any other gruesome trick he could pull off. Up until this point, rock and roll was nothing to be afraid of. After Alice though, things started to get a whole lot more evil.
