10 Greatest Hard Rock Songs Of The 1980s
7. I Love It Loud - KISS
KISS didn't just need a good album at the start of the decade....they needed a damn miracle. After firing Peter Criss and Ace Frehley leaving out of disgust on the last record, it looked like the rock and roll circus was starting to take themselves way too seriously for their own good. When their backs were against the wall, Gene Simmons managed to hunker down and bring us the Demon we all know and love.
Although many different tracks off of Creatures of the Night could have made this list, I Love It Loud is the kind of bombastic arena rock that made most of us fall in love with KISS in the first place. Though the lyrics are your typical monstrous persona from most of Gene's songs, there's a lot more teeth behind this one, as if he's channeling all his frustration at the listener.
While this might seem like sacrilege today, this is the kind of groove that a band like Led Zeppelin would have been proud to have created back in the day. It also gave them a bit of a leg up on the MTV generation, having the same traditional shock rock getup while also getting heavier over time. If the band could have pulled off a miracle like this, couldn't this song alone have spared us from the more forgettable albums they would make throughout the rest of the decade?
