10 Greatest Headbanging Metal Songs

1. Psychosocial - Slipknot

How do you necessarily choose the greatest headbanging song of all time? Does it go back to how influential it was or do you have to focus on the time and place when it was actually released? Despite all of the outsider qualifications for what constitutes a banger, it's really simple at the end of the day. If it makes you bang your head, it's worthy of inclusion, and Slipknot's Psychosocial makes that look easy.

Though the 9's 4th effort All Hope is Gone left a lot of hardcore fans a bit cold, this is the perfect song that these guys were actually able to get off the ground. As Mick Thomson's guitars set you up for something heavy, the buildup gives way to one of the greatest drum beats in modern metal history. Though every member has their chance to shine on this song, this moment really belongs to Joey Jordison, who opens up the pit once he starts pounding out that signature drumbeat.

It's not too slow, it's not too complicated...it's just exactly the right tempo to get any metalhead grooving in their seat. Even if you don't consider yourself that much of a metal aficionado, this song is enough to make you almost involuntarily bang your head out of musical respect.

You can be the most non-musical person in the world, but whenever this song comes on, you don't have a prayer of standing still. Go crazy and enjoy the bangover the next day.
