8. Eddie Vedder
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR3rzpmIXXE Eddie is the Bruce Springsteen of Grunge. The mans man with the smile that can lift a stadium. Known of course for his stunning work with Pearl Jam, it is not so well known that his debut came about almost by accident. Visiting Seattle on advice from his friend and former Chilli Peppers drummer Jack Irons, Vedder overheard a certain Chris Cornell rehearsing Hunger Strike with the new project/band he had formed with former members of Mother Love Bone, following the death of their singer Andrew Wood. Requesting to join in the session, Eddies performance was so heartfelt and powerful that Cornell invited him to sing co-lead vocals on the record. The creation of Pearl Jam on the back of this project forever changed the course of Vedders life and sealed his inclusion on this list. Proof positive that baritone rocks and that you dont have to be a songbird to front a stellar band, Eddie carved out a niche of channelling rage and pain through a filter of thoughtfulness, lending a subtlety to his voice that cannot be matched by his Seattle contemporaries. Ever versatile, Eddie has presented a softer side to himself with recent solo releases both for the feature film Into The Wild, as well as Ukelele Songs.
