10 Greatest Masked Bands In Rock History
7. Mudvayne
Only a band of heavy metal dinosaurs could make Mudvayne seem comparatively quite normal.
Formed in 1996, this alternative/prog metal outfit released their first studio album L.D. 50 four years later in 2000. They've sold over 6 million records around the world since then and even picked up a Grammy nomination in 2006.
In their early days, Mudvayne's members all adopted different personas for performing on stage. Their names were Kud, sPaG, Ryknow and Gurrg. They abandoned those over time, presumably because they were all very stupid.
Around the time that L.D 50 was coming out, the group started experimenting with stage make-up and masks.
They've had many memorable looks over the years, including a period of time where they performed with what looked like bullet holes in their heads.
In around 2003, Mudvayne stopped this part of their act. This was a real shame, as the makeup and masks were such a big part of why the band got so popular in the first place.
Thankfully, when they came back together in 2021, the facial modifications returned!
Hooray!
Now we all have an excuse to leave the house whilst looking like the ending to Bonnie and Clyde.
