10 Greatest Masked Bands In Rock History
5. Mushroomhead
When the original members of Mushroomhead all got together in 1993, they were all part of other bands.
To avoid confusion with their other work and set their stalls out as a new project, the players all decided to create new identities for themselves using elaborate masks and horror-themed stage make-up.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
According to drummer Steve "Skinny" Felton, the band were so impactful that they played only their second ever show in front of two thousand people.
Whether you believe that or not, Mushroomhead have since gone on to become one of the biggest names in industrial metal.
Pulling from many different musical strands, this massive collection of musicians has produced some of the most innovative, boundary-pushing metal of all time.
They are constantly changing up their act too, cycling members in and out and rearranging their appearance accordingly. You can go and see two Mushroomhead gigs a few years apart and get an entirely different experience each time.
The band have used the mask format to enhance their own image, keeping themselves fresh as so many other masked acts have fallen by the wayside.
