10 Greatest Masked Bands In Rock History
4. P*ssy Riot
Everyone else on this list wears a mask because they want to.
The members of Russian punk collective P*ssy Riot wear masks because they have to.
Formed in 2011, this ever-evolving group of women came together to share their views on how their country was being run.
Spoilers - they weren't fans.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is more often than not their target; members of the band have been filmed urinating on his picture on stage, which Vlad must have really loved.
The masks not only play a pivotal role in keeping the band members safe, but they've also become synonymous with their brand of ultra-liberal protest.
Their bright colours are clearly meant to attract attention and evoke images of the rainbow flag, as LGBTQ+ rights are also a major theme of their work.
Also, they look a damn sight more comfortable most of the other masks on this list.
With so much attention placed on their activism, it's easy to forget that P*ssy Riot are actually a band.
They've released seven studio albums since 2012 and, in light of Russia's recent activities in Ukraine, it doesn't look like they'll be stopping any time soon.
