10 Greatest MTV Unplugged Rock Performances

8. KISS

KISS are the ultimate theatrical rock band, with them having been hugely successful in the 1970s and '80s partly by painting their faces and creating character personas which saw them become a marketing dream. They created an army of young followers, and with songs such as Rock & Roll All Night, Crazy Nights, and Detroit Rock City, KISS sold millions of records worldwide.

Their Unplugged set landed in 1995 when the band were no longer at the forefront of the fashionable rock scene (which had largely been taken over by the grunge movement), and this performance was a reunion of the four original musicians for the first time since 1979.

KISS have always been a class act, and here they provided an interesting acoustic run through some of their classic tracks. Their set here and the subsequent album release was so well received by fans, it led to an official reunion and tour for their classic first line-up.
