10 Greatest Nu Metal Albums Of All Time
8. Korn: Follow The Leader (1998)
Korn had 2 landmark nu metal records under their belts by the time Follow the Leader hit the charts. Their following was immense and this album cemented them as superstars.
Freak on a Leash became one of the biggest metal singles of all time with near endless re-releases and a classic music video. Directed by Image Comics founder Todd Macfarlane, the video blends animated and live action footage as a bullet travels through both worlds. An MTV favourite, the single enhanced the band’s star power even further.
Tracks such as Got the Life, Justin and Pretty continue the group’s hot streak. Fusing rap, metal and punk into their own innovative nu metal sound, Korn continued to innovate the genre for which they are often credited with starting. It’s all great until one gets to All In The Family. A vulgar duet of sorts between front man Jonathan Davis and Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, All In The Family lacks the intense metal feel throughout the rest of the album. Instead, we get various insults between the 2 that vary in comedic quality, often delving too far into slurs and immaturity to provide any real entertainment.
All in all, Follow the Leader remains a powerhouse album in the band’s exceptional discography. For the most part, it is a perfect summary of what made nu metal such a cultural juggernaut at the time.
