Stand Out Track - Those Left Behind. A riff heavy dirge of brutal intent. Dawn of Possession, released in 1991, is the debut album by New York's Immolation and was their first and last record released on the Death Metal friendly Roadrunner Records label. Blessed with face-melting riffs and discordant rhythms, this is the sound of pure malevolence personified by Ross Dolan's low end vocals and bass which create a bowel-loosening heavy sound. This ferocity is counter balanced by Immolation's knack of throwing fiendish melodies, as catchy as the common cold, into the mix. Atmospheric and apocalyptic, this album has everything to keep the most hardened death head moshing. Death Metal in the early 90's seemed to be throwing up albums of this quality on a weekly basis and this remains a stone cold classic to this day.
