10 Greatest Rock Frontmen Of All Time
9. Paul Stanley - Kiss
With years of hindsight, KISS almost seems like a band that was run on nothing but cheap gimmicks. All done up in black-and-white face makeup, each band member seemed to be just a mere caricature of the rock lifestyle. However, the real magic of the band was the live stage, where they unleashed spectacles in tribute to the Church of Rock and Roll.
In said church, Paul Stanley was the preacher who used the crowd as his congregation. Even though Stanley had a guitar strapped to his waist in every show, it never got in the way as he delivered his odes to sex, drugs, and rock and roll on "Detroit Rock City" and "Love Gun." The guitar seemed like Stanley's weapon as he stomped out the troubles of everyday life with each chord and turned them into pure rock n roll rebellion.
These antics increased as the band got bigger, which involved Stanley strutting around the stage and eventually using harnesses to go out into the crowd. While each member of KISS had the potential of a frontman in their own right, Paul Stanley was able to control the audience through the Psycho Circus of the band's live shows.
