10 Greatest Rock Music Cover Songs Of The 1990s

8. One More Cup Of Coffee - The White Stripes

Though they rose to prominence in the early 2000s, The White Stripes put out their first album, which was self-titled, in 1999. Alongside several originals, the band also covered several classic blues standards by the likes of Robert Johnson and Son house, as well as this number, made famous by… Bob Dylan?

How did you get back in here?

One More Cup of Coffee (Valley Below) comes from Dylan’s 1976 album Desire and is cited as one of the best songs he wrote during this period. A young Emmylou Harris duets with Dylan on his version and it’s subseqnetly received the cover treatment from superstars like Robert Plant and Tom Jones.

The White Stripes’ version is slower and more sparse than the others, surrounded by an ominous aura that sits nicely amongst the track’s themes of solitude and mortality. Jack White staggers around on the guitar, creating a pleasantly wonky sound that fits perfectly with his coarse singing.

Not one you’re likely to come across unless you purposefully seek it out, but this version of One More Cup of Coffee is a must-listen for any Dylan or White Stripes completionists.
