10 Greatest Rock Music Cover Songs Of The 2010s

3. Zombie - Bad Wolves

In 2017, hard rock band Bad Wolves decided to include a version of Zombie by The Cranberries on their upcoming album, Disobey.

They got in touch with original singer Dolores O’Riordan and she agreed to participate in the song. They sent a version over to her to take a listen to, which she said she really enjoyed. Just a few hours after that response, O’Riordan was found dead in her hotel room.

Suddenly, this cover now had an entirely new meaning.

As well as being a fitting tribute to the late Irish star, Bad Wolves’ version of Zombie is also excellent. It takes all the anger and rage of the original song and reframes it in a hard rock context, with singer Tommy Vext doing a great job matching O’Riordan’s original intensity on the mic.

The song continued to serve as a tribute to the fallen icon, as its music featured a woman dressed head-to-toe in gold, much like O’Riordan was in the original. Bad Wolves donated $250,000 to O’Riordan’s family at a concert in June later that year and their version of Zombie is now forever linked to the last days of a legend.
