10 Greatest Rock Music Gigs Of The 1990s

1. U2 ZooTv Tour

When the alternative revolution first started, everyone and their mother needed to step up their game in terms of the live show. Since this was a time where you needed to turn away from the more artificial side of things, the idea of a performance changed exponentially in just a few years. For a band that had always prided themselves on their live shows, this was going to be a walk in the park.

Off of the strength of their mammoth album Achtung Baby, U2 created a whole new lane for their live shows, with Bono playing up his Fly persona to the nth degree whenever he took to the stage. By making things more over the top than they should be, the Zoo TV tour felt more like being transported into a dystopian future, with fans seeing these gigantic TVs that looked like they were ripped directly out of the book 1984.

Even with the new scenery, U2 were still in peak form whenever they performed live, always jamming on stage and making for moments that could never be calculated, like The Edge introducing different digital whammy effects and Larry Mullen Jr. breaking out electronic drum kits. Some of the opening acts even found themselves launched after this, with Pearl Jam to Nine Inch Nails being offered deals to open shows for them. Then again, if you were going to a show like this, you weren't going to forget U2's bold vision any time soon.
